WAKE

TIME TO WAKE UP.

It was 40 degrees out yesterday. The last thing I wanted to do was get up. Wake up. Be up for much of anything. I let that be the case. I was in good company. And I didn't have to be anywhere for another day. It was lazy. There was a movie. And cornichons.

I've been working my ass off trying to get this website in order and I've been working my buns of something less than steel to get the right content flicked over, the images which are NOT the images I was going to use or had as of last week and the links to all work in a way that means emails go where emails go and when you click it takes you to the appropriate happy places. I'm tired.

So now, Monday. Middle of March and April is fast approaching and I've had to ask myself a few really important questions:

  1. WTF am I doing?

  2. What am I doing it for?

  3. Who am I serving?

  4. Do you need it?

  5. There's more, but the list is pretty long and I've still got to make sure the EMAIL and Submission Forms work

Basically, its time to WAKE UP. TO HEED THE CALL.

Mondays are always the start of something new and my mornings are about soft reflection and setting things up so the week starts off in just the right way. I get more done when I'm awake to the nuances of my mornings. Sometimes that means coffee and other times that means green juice. Today was green juice, an even earlier WAKE UP CALL and a setting in motion of what I hope is to come for the rest of the week.

HOW DO YOU WAKE YOURSELF UP IN THE MORNING? FOR THE MORNING? WHEN SLEEP IS ALL YOU SEEM TO WANT OR NEED?

Is it healthy?

I must admit, mine isn't always. I have dirtyGOOD morning rituals and too many alarms going off for other people's tastes. I don't like rude awakenings. If I eat a breakfast I've spent time and effort putting together, I have a nice reward not too long after. If I have a coffee in good company, it's different than having a coffee on my own. To the point of "why bother?" And in case you're not sure who's asking "why" its me asking myself. I talk to myself. On my way out the door. Because if I don't, sometimes, who will.

Teaching yoga isn't the most social job. For the most part, for most teachers, its a lot of alone time; alone comings and goings. I have to talk to myself to WAKE MYSELF UP with dirtyGOOD little questions like the ones above. Like little meditations for the week. To start my day. To start my week. To STAY WOKE to the little, the big and the funny things.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE AWAKE TO THINGS? WHEN YOU NOTICE THE BIG AND LITTLE THINGS?

I think this is where the magic is. And if you're not in the mood for magic. If you need some down time, some sleep time..some quiet from the noise and over-lingering questions already inside you head, I say take a time out. Take a nap. But remember, it's important to get up, wake up and be up for life. Its a choice like everything else.

AND TODAY, which was not yesterday, I CHOOSE TO WAKE UP. And to set myself up for a good week. And now, a great afternoon. I choose to stay awake to the important questions sitting pretty inside my head.

  1. What are YOU doing?

  2. What are YOU doing it for?

  3. Who are YOU serving?

  4. Do you need it, whatever IT is?

  5. What one more question might you have for the rest of your week?

HEED THE CALL!!
