To seek out beauty in our work is to make a pilgrimage of our labors, to understand that the consummation of work lies not only in what we have done, but who we have become while accomplishing the task.

YOGA THERAPY EDUCATION: VANESSA N. RODRIGUEZ

OVER TWENTY YEARS OF TEACHING, TRAVEL & dirtyGOOD TIMES

I was born and raised in Texas. I'm finally fully gray, over forty and boy has it been a wild ride. I love to laugh and I enjoy putting people, places and things together.

I've been practicing yoga for almost 30 years and teaching for twenty years. I've spent winters in Chicago, exactly a year in Seoul, South Korea and five years in Hong Kong. I’ve lived and taught yoga for over a decade, now, here in Sydney, Australia. Multi-passionate and full of potential, like you, I'm making my way through life. I started teaching in Chicago while in Graduate School for Traditional Chinese Medicine. I lived in and taught Yoga in Hong Kong for 5 years. I was extremely lucky to have worked for a well known studio that offered all styles and types of Yoga, and I believe it’s what kept the work and practice interesting.

I Sit Tea daily. This is both a daily Ritual and, on it’s own, a beautiful way to Meditate. This is where I commune and Seek Source outside of a physical Yoga Practice. TEA CEREMONY is a way of Serving Love and I LOVE TO SERVE LOVE.

WHAT SETS ME APART

I've consistently been called to teach dynamic and powerful yoga, and enjoy physically fun and mentally challenging practices, but I'd love for you to know I offer so much more.

The industry is fast learning that slower, more restorative yoga practice is not only what "the cool kids are doing" but what is most needed in our already fast paced lives. Slow Flow, Mellow Flow, Kundalini, Yin and Restorative Yoga are my passion. I've seen too many students get injured and have certainly dealt with my own practice injuries. Just like you, I'm learning to be kinder to myself and I'm understanding more that everything I face "on the mat" is a reflection of what I likely need to face "off the mat."

I have practiced and studied with with Ana Forrest, Shiva Rea, Sean Corne, Jivamukti, John Friend, Tiffany Cruikshank, David Swenson, Gurmuhk, Ellen Heed, Nischala Joy Devi, Gopala Amir Yaffe and many more. My first five years of practice was Iyengar-based and my first Yoga Teacher Training was alignment-based Ashtanga practice. Vinyasa and Power Flow were a larger part of my initial teaching, as was Bikram and Hot Yoga. As all practice and teaching should, my work and study evolved.

I’m a Senior Level III Teacher with Yoga Australia, and this means that I've done the time, waited patiently for ten years and done well over 1000 hours of training to be considered and then able to offer Yoga Teacher Training. I'm the Lead Trainer for all YTTs offered. As well, I'm an ERYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) and RPYT (Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher) and YOGA THERAPY EDUCATION is a Registered School with Yoga Alliance. As well, I'm the Sydney Ambassador for Rainbow Yoga Training and Rainbow Kids Yoga

To make it all a bit more seductive, I'm also a certified Meditation Facilitator and everything I offer is laced with deep and soulful self-reflection. I offer more than the average teacher and I offer more than the average Yoga Teacher Training. Versed in various Meditative Modalities, my personal and daily Meditation Practice is with nature through Tea Ritual; I also offer Tea Ceremony.

I have also studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and have a Diploma in Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies. I've trained in and intensively studied Thai Massage both in and outside of Thailand. I've studied Craniosacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute and utilize a more visionary approach from work and on-going study with the Milne Institute. I’m working toward a multidisciplinary approach and two Diplomas with the Integrative Sound Healing Academy.

EXTRA EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT

I specialize in Family Practice including Prenatal Yoga, Yoga for Fertility and Yoga for Cancer. It took me a long time to feel confident teaching and specifically to feel confident, when i didn’t have children of my own, teaching Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga. For both confidence and to better inform my teaching, I became a Childbirth Educator and trained to be a Doula. I've also studied various Bodywork Modalities, Clinical Counseling, Chinese Medicine and Shiatsu related Diagnosis Techniques and this has taken everything I offer to a deeper and more personally relevant level.

I introduce Ceremony, Stone Medicine, Oracle Cards and SOUND HEALING into most of what I offer. Tea is always on offer and finds Her way to those who are ready to receive.

My approach to every class I teach and every bodywork session we collaborate on is Trauma & Life-Sensitive™ and this means we work together in ways that are sensitive to your personal needs, your personal history and with regard to the time and place we're working.

We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.

I’M GRATEFUL FOR SMALL THINGS AND BIG THINGS.

Mostly, I'm grateful to each and every one of my students. Through the years I have learned SO---------O much from you. From your every effort.

I'm grateful for my mother, now departed, but always my first country. And despite how far away I have been, she supported my decisions and endeavors. My dad because he was always there at every turn of every wheel; he worked hard. Tomasa and Victor for demonstrating love, kindness and how to give, laugh and love. Adria and Thomas for their most quiet and loud. The Three Scotts for being The Great Scotts. Each of you. For all of you. Kathie and Julianne for girlhood to womanhood. Copper and Brian for consistency and support. Nick for changing the game. Gretel, Jon, Josh and Garth for time, sustenance and joy. Steady Simon for the presence and possibility he always offered. Alex for being at the right place and at just the right time. L & G for being great first teachers. Patrick Creelman for giving me a chance and planting the first seeds. Kristi, Claudia, Tanya B, Pua, Julia, Diane and Joakim for inspirational teaching, unforgettable friendship and dirtyGOOD times. Ellen Heed, Hugh Milne, Gopala Amir Yaffe and the entire Rainbow Yoga Training Family, Lilian, Dan, Anne and Stefanie for teaching more than yoga or bodywork skills. Gurmukh, John Friend, David Swenson, Seane Corn, Ana Forrest and the many other leaders in the industry for yoga teaching inspiration and for adding to "the mystery."

Thank you, too, to all the Big and Little Spaces that have been a huge part of my growth both personal and professional. You have been all the things I always knew you’d be.
